Gestational Diabetes is a diabetes type that happens to pregnant women when there is no symptoms of diabetes known before the pregnancy. While there is no real proof about what causes the condition, several experts believe that this is due to the hormonal activity during the pregnancy. These hormone activities develop a condition where the body becomes insulin resistance. And if the condition happens for long times the blood sugar level become higher then normal. This is the main factor why pregnant women could develop diabetes.

There is no real reason why it happens to some women and not for other mother. However there are various factors that might elevate the risk of this diabetes being developed. Usually the condition only occur to pregnant mothers who are at 35 years old or older, have obese problems, or if they have a diabetes history on their family.

Gestational diabetes mostly will be developed at the 24th weeks of pregnancy. This is why most of the time pregnant mothers don’t find any blood sugar rate increasing at the first trimester.

If you are pregnant it is suggested to do blood sugar levels testing from the first time of your pregnancy. You need to do the test periodically to make sure the blood glucose level is always on the healthy ranges. If you find some increasing it is advised to contact your doctor right away. This is very crucial because gestational diabetes can affect your pregnancy and baby .

Generally, gestational diabetes can be managed and controlled with proper diet. In fact, most oral diabetes medications are not suggested in this case because it may affect your body and the baby condition. Hypoglycemia is an example.

Make a proper diet for gestational diabetes is very important in this level because you are on pregnancy. You need enough nutrition supply each day to support the pregnancy and your growing baby, while at the same time you need to make sure the diet you consume will not elevate the blood sugar ranges.

Generally you will need calories intake, several essential vitamins and minerals supply, and also a good numbers of proteins to support the body and pregnancy.
